There are a ton of charities out there doing truly amazing work, none probably more topical right now than those helping with the aftermath of the Philippines supertyphoon. (In terms of donations getting through successfully, I have been told The Red Cross is your best bet).
The Singapore Committee for UN Women got in touch with me after my recent post on their glorious designer charity clothes sale that took place two weekends ago. They are a non-profit organization that supports programs providing women and children in developing countries with access to education, healthcare, economic independence and a life free of violence and abuse. Again a cause you can really get behind.
They have asked me to help publicise a photo competition they are running, Sheroes, that is taking place throughout this month to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, on 25th November.
Rather than focus on women as victims of violence, they are looking for photographs that celebrate the inherent strength and power of every women – everyday Sheroes. I have submitted this one (below) of my lovely helper Maricon Espiritu who is a true Sheroe:
Always smiling, she is part of the family and someone who I simply could not manage without.
Anyone can submit photos throughout the month via the charity’s Facebook page (I attached it in a short message to them; there didn’t seem to be anywhere on their Facebook wall to post pictures).
Finalists will be selected by online voting and on 29th November the top 10 photographs will be exhibited at Indigo Blue Art Gallery where the winner of the competition will be announced.
